Beauty Biographies - Richard Creagh

I note that on the vale list Robert Grealy (John) passed away in 2009. The last time, I saw John was on our way to Vietnam. He and I sat beside one another on the Qantas flight from Edinburgh, South Australia to Saigon. John was returning to Vietnam after attending his brother Mick's funeral. John was serving with the 7th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment at the time and I was with the 3rd Battalion. It was sad to hear of his passing as well as others who I was in the same class with, both at primary and high school. They were Lenny Price, Paul Harkin, Doug Keat, Carolyn Addinsall and Peter Couch who also was one of my friends. In Vietnam, during a Rest & Recreation period at Vung Tau, I ran into Rudy Ol'ree who was a clerk at the Australian Logistic's Headquarters Vietnam, Rudy was another classmate from school.

When I joined the Army, I went through recruit training at Kapooka in the same platoon with Ricky Walton (12 Platoon B Company). Also at Kapooka at the same time was Kevin Hill, who also served in Vietnam. The only others that I am aware of that served in Vietnam was Peter Petrovic and Ian Croucher (Navy). During my army service, I also met up with Garry Christie and Clive Ball, who were serving soldiers at the time and were also class mates who I went to school with.

I also came across Jim Corless, who at the time was in the Army Education Corps. His wife was my teacher in Year 1 at primary school. Apart from that I never have really had any contact from anyone else from Mt Beauty, since leaving school.

I served twenty plus years in the Army followed by 16 years Army Reserve Service, retiring as  a Warrant Officer Class One. After leaving the Regular Army in late 1989, I joined the Queensland Police Force, now Queensland Police Service from which I retired from in 2011 after 21 years service.

I have been married to Leanne for 40 years, we have three children and seven grand children. Leanne and I currently live in Toowoomba, Queensland.
